Recycling & Agrecovery

Empty bags don't have to go to landfill. Here's what to do with them.

Milligans and Agrecovery

Taking Responsibility After The Sale

Milligans Feeds is a founding member of the Agrecovery Small Bags Product Stewardship Scheme — one of a small number of manufacturers in New Zealand.

That's not something every brand in this market can say. Many manufacturers sell product in bags that end up in landfill or burned on farm because they haven't taken responsibility for what happens after the sale. We took a different view. We fund it through a levy on our products, and we think that's the right thing to do.

Agrecovery is New Zealand's only government-accredited scheme for recycling farm plastics, with over 200 collection sites nationwide. It's free to use, and all plastic collected is recycled back into the circular economy.

When you buy Milligans, part of what you're paying for is a product that can be disposed of responsibly, at no extra cost to you.

Council recycling

Some local councils also accept Woven PP bags (#5 plastic) through kerbside or transfer station recycling. Check with your local council to confirm whether #5 plastic is accepted in your area.

Bag preparation

Bags must be shaken clean before recycling — bags with excess residue cannot be accepted. Do not mix bag types in the same liner.
