With this being said, we encourage users to follow the guidelines as presented but also to take a pragmatic approach for situations that are exceptions to the rule and to practice common sense. For example, when feeding a sick animal that may not want to eat or drink, it is acceptable to feed less volume and less often until it feels better or can tolerate the normal amount. Conversely, feeding more than recommended to an animal that can tolerate more or is larger than others could be appropriate in that situation. As a rule of thumb, think of what you would do for a human baby, or even an adult, as it is the same approach but for a different species.
